Visit Reef HQ

Experience the Great Barrier Reef at the world’s largest living coral reef aquarium, with one of the richest, most complex and diverse ecosystems in the world. Reef HQ Aquarium will open your eyes to an amazing world filled with thousands of charismatic marine creatures. With many exhibits the aquarium offers an ever changing, experience, showcasing rare and extraordinary features of the Great Barrier Reef. Reef HQ was created by Dr Graeme Kelleher with a vision of making the reef accessible and affordable to everyone, while also making public awareness of the conservation of the Great Barrier Reef. ** Please note that Reef HQ is under renovation at the moment and will re-open in 2024.
Paluma

Visit Paluma

Paluma has many rainforest walks and offers a lot of information about the Australian geography that is considered to be one of the oldest continually living rainforest in the world. There are so many different walking tracks throughout the Paluma Range National Park. Some of these boasting amazing views of the islands just off the coast of Townsville, making them look to be floating as ocean meets sky. As is that wasn't enough just past the Paluma village is an amazing array of flora and fauna with dramatic changes as you enter the dry open woodlands.

Visit The Museum of Tropical North Queensland

The Museum of Tropical Queensland is an iconic building looking out over the Ross Creek in the middle of our beautiful city. The museum is renowned for its research and interpretation of the natural heritage and culture of tropical Queensland. The museum hosts a continuous series of displays, including school holiday programs and displays from a variety of other museum. Some of these include Animals of Queensland, Aboriginal and Torres Strait, Dinosaurs and Ancient Life of Queensland and the ever popular Enchanted Rainforest that was build and inspired by the amazing Quandong Tree, where visitors can learn all about the tropical rainforest.

Visit Magnetic Island

Explore the breathtakingly beautiful Magnetic Island and swim in the crystal clear blue waters or hike up the forts walk to a magnificent panoramic view at the top. For something more adrenalin packed you could take a jet ski tour around the island or opt for aerobatics with the local 'Red Barren' sea plane joy flights. However if relaxing is more your style then kick back on one of the many deserted tropical beaches and take in the beauty, not to mention the many world class restaurants along the way. Also to help you get to know each other within the school by offer a verity of different events for the students, teachers and families to attend together in a more informal environment. We regularly meet on the pier to throw a line in, trying to fish, you will be surprised the amount of fun we have here even when nothing is caught. We also like to see who can beat the teacher at Kingpin Bowling, a night not only of bowling fun but playing in the games arcade or teaming up in laser squeamish. These are only 2 of the great activities we like to organise monthly outside of school hours.

Visit The Heritage Tea Rooms

Since 1865 the Eureka Hotel, now known as the Herveys Range Heritage Tea Rooms have been the perfect getaway just 30mins from Townsville up the beautiful scenic range. The Tea Rooms host an all-day breakfast and lunch menu with their stand our attraction being the infamous Kopi Luwak coffee. The history held within the original building will awe even the most experienced of travellers. The owners pride themselves in the preservation and beauty of the property and its historic hold in the area.

There are many exciting and different activities available once you arrive in Townsville. Use your three day weekends to explore the activities on offer.

During term time you will have several opportunities to travel with your classmates to various locations within the Townsville area. This is just another way that we make your stay with TIES the best it can possibly be.
